MISSION:
AFAR Florida seeks to advance the science of healthier aging by:
- Accelerating the pace of biomedical research on aging in Florida through increased support for scientists studying the biology of aging.
- Providing foundational support that will facilitate success in obtaining future (and larger) funding.
- Encouraging young scientists to choose geroscience as a specialty area.
- Creating educational opportunities for scientists and the general public.
VISION:
By studying how and why we age, as well as ways to increase a healthy, active lifespan, AFAR Florida believes that:
- We can lead the way to a greater understanding of all age-related diseases.
- We can impact the development of interventions to prevent and treat diseases of aging, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, metabolic diseases, cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, and macular degeneration.
- We can improve the lives of older adults by generating knowledge to prolong their health and independence.
- We can educate our communities about the findings of AFAR Florida-sponsored research, so more people can make informed choices about their health care as they age.
